Lewis-Palmer D-38 seeks new superintendent from within
Lewis-Palmer District 38 is starting its search for a new superintendent, focusing on current employees. During a board meeting on Monday night, the D-38 Board of Education approved the hiring process, which will include an internal job posting for the position. The decision comes after former Superintendent Stacie Datteri resigned on January 21. Since then, Assistant Superintendent Amber Whetstine has stepped in as interim superintendent until June 30. Board President Tiffiney Upchurch mentioned hearing from the community, which wants a clearer process in place by the end of the semester. Board member Patti Shank highlighted that many teachers, staff, and community members support an internal search. She noted that feedback from various groups was closely aligned, indicating a strong preference for this approach. However, Board Treasurer Ron Schwarz disagreed with the decision. He voiced concerns that limiting the search to internal candidates might bypass due diligence. He argued that the board should also consider external candidates to ensure they find the best fit for the role and validate their choice. Despite this dissent, Upchurch assured that the internal job posting would not exclude thorough evaluation measures. She confirmed that the board would soon discuss the details of the job posting, interview processes, and how to engage the community throughout the search. These discussions are expected to take place at next month’s work session.
