Liam Lawson interested in NASCAR after simulator test
Liam Lawson, a driver for Red Bull in Formula One, is thinking about a possible move to NASCAR. He recently tested a Next Gen car using a simulator at Ford's technical center in North Carolina. Lawson's F1 season has not started well. He qualified last in the recent Chinese Grand Prix and has not scored any points in this year's races. Red Bull is working with Ford to create a new F1 engine for the upcoming 2026 season. This new engine will run on a mix of electric and traditional fuels. While at Ford, Lawson was joined by his friend Noah Gragson, who is a NASCAR driver. Lawson impressed Gragson by completing a lap in under 2:15 at the virtual Circuit of the Americas. Gragson lost a bet because of Lawson's performance. Lawson also performed well at the Bristol Motor Speedway in the simulator, leading to questions about when he might race in NASCAR. When asked about racing in NASCAR, Lawson said he would love the opportunity. His current struggles in F1 have led to speculation about his future with Red Bull. Following his recent race, Red Bull's senior advisor, Helmut Marko, mentioned that the team will meet this week to discuss how to improve their performance. Lawson himself expressed frustration with his lack of results, stating that he is working hard to adapt to the RB21 car but finds it challenging. He previously had strong performances in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Red Bull junior team, but his difficulties in F1 may require more time and experience to overcome.
