Libby track and field team prepares for strong season
The Libby Loggers track and field team is preparing for an exciting season. They have a mix of experienced athletes and promising newcomers. The goal is to improve on last year's successes and aim for the podium at divisional and state tournaments. Coach Josh Bean is optimistic about the team's future. A large group of freshmen and sophomores will be joining the team this year. The coaching staff hopes to find the right events for these young athletes. They aim to improve their techniques and keep them motivated throughout the season. Libby has strong returners this year, like junior Tristan Andersen. Last season, he placed second in high jump and fifth in javelin. Senior Bergen Fortner, who finished third in the long jump last year, is also expected to perform well. Freshman Capri Farmer had a great debut last year, finishing fifth in the 3,200-meter run. Rowen Sherbo, a senior, will lead the team in the 800 meters. Sophomore Cody Watson is another standout, having won a state medal in cross country last fall. Their distance group is quite strong, while the team is working to improve in sprint events. New athletes are joining the team as well. Senior Drake Wofford will add depth, while foreign exchange students Danny Waletzki and Alex Tomasi will bring unique talents. Sophomore Hailey Misner is also expected to be a key contributor. The team will host two high school track meets at Logger Stadium this season. The first is the Libby Invitational on April 12, followed by the County Meet on May 1. The Loggers are set to begin their season on March 28 at Eureka, followed by a competition at Bigfork on April 5. Coach Bean emphasizes the importance of community support for running successful meets. With their talent and focus, the Libby Loggers are ready for a strong season.
