Liberal Party cancels Chandra Arya's candidacy in Canada
The Liberal Party of Canada has revoked the candidacy of MP Chandra Arya ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections. Arya is known for his criticism of Khalistani groups in Canada. He announced this decision in a post on X, stating that the party informed him of the revocation for his constituency of Nepean. The party's action followed a "thorough review" of Arya's eligibility as a candidate. The party's National Campaign Co-Chair recommended this decision, which was accepted by the Liberal Party. Arya expressed disappointment but acknowledged the honor of serving the people of Nepean. In the past, the Liberal Party also rejected Arya's bid to lead the party. His outspoken opposition to Khalistani elements has made him a target for those involved in the movement. Recently, US-based Khalistani figure Gurpatwant Singh Pannun called for investigations into Arya, labeling him an "Indian agent" and accusing him of promoting hate speech against supporters of Khalistan. In October, tensions escalated between Canada and India after the Canadian government linked Indian diplomats to the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist. Following this, Pannun publicly urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to target Arya. The situation highlights the ongoing conflict over the Khalistani movement within Canada.
