Liberals to announce new party leader to succeed Trudeau on March 9
The federal Liberals will announce a new party leader to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on March 9, following a leadership vote. Trudeau plans to resign once a successor is chosen. Candidates must declare by January 23 and pay a $350,000 entry fee. So far, only Ontario MP Chandra Arya and former Montreal MP Frank Baylis have officially entered the race. Voting eligibility has been tightened. To vote, individuals must be registered as Liberal members by January 27, be at least 14 years old, and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have status under the Indian Act.
