Liberty re-signs Marine Johannes for 2025 season

The New York Liberty have re-signed Marine Johannes, a French guard, as they prepare for the 2025 WNBA season. Johannes missed the entire 2024 season while playing for the French national team at the Olympics, where they reached the gold medal game but lost to the United States. Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb expressed excitement about Johannes joining the team again. He highlighted her talent, saying her skills will enhance the team’s offense as they aim to defend their championship title in 2025. Johannes has been with the Liberty since 2019 but has played in only three seasons due to commitments overseas. At 30 years old, she is known for her exciting playing style, often making remarkable plays like no-look passes and one-legged 3-pointers. Despite having limited appearances, Johannes remains a fan favorite. In 2023, she averaged 7.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. With the Liberty recently trading for Natasha Cloud and needing more depth in the backcourt after Courtney Vandersloot's exit, Johannes will likely play an important role off the bench. The team's backcourt now includes Sabrina Ionescu, Cloud, and Johannes. The Liberty's new lineup promises strong offensive skills and solid defensive matchups as they prepare for their season opener against the Las Vegas Aces on May 17.
