Lioncor appeals housing project rejection in Dublin

Lioncor has appealed a decision by Dublin City Council to deny planning permission for a housing development on the land of Terenure College. The plan includes 265 apartments and 19 houses, but the council raised concerns about transport and parking. The council decided that the proposed parking for future residents was insufficient. They feared that it would lead to additional parking problems on nearby roads and bus routes. The site in question is 11.5 acres, located where Terenure College used to have playing fields for its junior school. The appeal was prepared by McGill Planning, and associate director Brenda Butterly expressed disappointment with the council’s decision. She noted that all city council departments supported the proposal except for transport planning. Ms. Butterly criticized the lack of further requests for information from the council on the parking situation. According to Ms. Butterly, the council's claims regarding parking issues were not supported by evidence. Previously, the planning authority had turned down a different version of the project, but those reasons did not pertain to parking. The appeal, which aims to highlight the positive aspects of the development, is scheduled for a decision by the appeals board in July.
