The Detroit Lions' running backs, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, have adopted the nickname "Sonic and Knuckles," inspired by the "Sonic the Hedgehog" video game. Montgomery identifies as Knuckles, reflecting his power style, while Gibbs is Sonic, known for speed. Both players joined the Lions in 2023, with Montgomery signing in free agency and Gibbs being drafted. In their first season, Gibbs recorded 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns, while Montgomery added 1,015 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. This season, Gibbs is on track to exceed his rushing total from last year, with 656 yards so far. Montgomery has also improved, with 488 rushing yards and 161 receiving yards through eight games.
