Lisbon Fashion Week showcases ten emerging Portuguese designers
Lisbon Fashion Week in March 2025 showcased a mix of established and emerging designers. This event stands out for its combination of modern styles and traditional Portuguese influences. It features not only global fashion trends but also highlights local craftsmanship. Among the notable designers was Constanca Entrudo, who presented her collection "Second Best." Her designs use recycled polyester yarns and bold digital prints, drawing inspiration from 1980s Olympic sportswear. The collection included shiny metallic dresses and unique handwoven materials. Another rising star is Francisca Nabinho, who presented her “slow fashion” collection made from natural materials. After studying in Copenhagen and Italy, she emphasized traditional techniques in her designs. Recent graduate Inês Barreto showcased designs featuring liquid latex, creating eye-catching pieces like a striking green overcoat and a playful vest. Mestre Studio, established in 2023, focused on knitwear inspired by childhood and adolescence. They used handcrafted knits to explore the transition from playful attire to teen styles. Bárbara Atanásio’s menswear line blends humor with innovative textiles. She is known for her unique use of distressed fabrics and upcycling techniques. Ana Rita de Sousa's brand, Arndes, creates stylish pieces from deadstock fabrics while minimizing waste. Her collection featured elegant navy leather and knitwear. Duarte Hajime aims for sustainability by recycling materials for streetwear, using eco-friendly fabrics in their designs. Their runway pieces showcased a variety of colors and contemporary styles. Joana Duarte’s brand, Behen, merges traditional Portuguese craftsmanship with ethical practices. Her work highlights collaboration with skilled artisans and focuses on preserving heritage techniques. Finally, leather goods by Belcinto were featured, showcasing eco-friendly production using surplus materials. Goncalo Peixoto is known for his luxurious, made-to-order womenswear with experimental silhouettes and vibrant colors. Lisbon Fashion Week continues to be an important platform for both established and emerging designers, celebrating innovation and sustainability in fashion.
