"Little Mac" bridge reopens, connecting key hiking trails
A suspension bridge in Cadillac, Michigan, is now open to walkers after a four-month closure for construction. The “Little Mac” bridge connects popular hiking trails along the Manistee River. It had been closed since November 6 but reopened on March 11, due to delays from bad weather. The bridge is 246 feet long and links the Manistee River Trail to the North Country Trail. This connection allows hikers to complete a 20-mile loop. The bridge is located in the Huron-Manistee National Forests and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Constructed in 1996, Little Mac has not undergone major renovations until now. The recent improvements include new decking, railing, and paint, along with updated hardware. Hikers are asked to be mindful of ongoing work while using the bridge. For information on trail conditions, hikers can reach out to the Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District at 231-848-7090.
