Liverpool Council acquires site for Anfield regeneration project
Liverpool City Council has taken a significant step in the Anfield regeneration project. The council has purchased a 2.5-acre site known as Anfield Square, located near Anfield stadium, for £381,441.92. This land was formerly owned by Your Housing Limited. The purchase includes 18 freeholds and leaseholds tied to the area when homes existed there. Now that the land has been cleared, the council plans to market it for future development. The project aims to create a vibrant space with leisure, entertainment, and employment opportunities. The council's report outlines the vision for Anfield Square as a high-quality development that encourages public interaction and provides essential amenities. It seeks to enhance the area, promote civic pride, and create a safe and welcoming environment for the community. Initially, the council had discussed marketing the site with Your Housing Limited, but they could not reach an agreement. Liverpool FC also expressed interest in building a hotel there, but the council declined that proposal. Currently, the council is working on a development brief for the site. This includes analyzing options based on community needs and market research. There are some constraints on the land due to historical title restrictions and covenants, which the future development partner will need to address. The Anfield regeneration program started in 2014 and aims to transform the area surrounding Anfield. Since then, it has resulted in over 600 new homes and improved public spaces. The council hopes to make Anfield a model for urban regeneration in the future.
