Liz uncovers conspiracy; armed police rescue her
In the finale of the ITV drama "Protection," DI Liz Nyles finds herself in a dangerous situation. She is investigating a murder connected to a family in witness protection. The case has raised serious questions about corruption within the witness protection unit. Liz's personal life complicates matters. Her affair with her colleague, DS Brandice, is known, and many suspect she may be corrupt. Tensions rise as drug baron Eddie Crowther, who was about to testify, is found dead in his cell. Liz and Raj, her partner, search for evidence in Brandice’s home. They hope to uncover a hidden “insurance policy” involving the murdered McLennan family. As they investigate, Liz fears for her life after receiving threats from Nigel Frankton, an intelligence officer. Frankton warns Liz that her family is in danger. In a shocking turn, Liz is captured by a man linked to her past, and Raj is shot while trying to rescue her. Thankfully, Liz manages to escape with the help of a lorry driver. The plot thickens when Liz confronts Frankton, leading to a violent struggle. Just as things seem dire, armed police intervene, rescuing her. Later, in a conversation with DCI Amanda Kelman, Liz learns that national security issues played a role in the case. Kelman admits to leaking sensitive information but insists on keeping much of the truth secret. At Brandice’s funeral, Liz learns more about their complicated relationship. Signs show that he may have intended to leave his wife for her. As she says goodbye at his grave, the emotional weight of their connection becomes clearer. The series wraps up its thrilling narrative, leaving audiences with many questions about integrity, love, and betrayal. "Protection" airs on Sundays and Mondays at 9pm, with all episodes available on ITVX.
