LMC seals PWD's building over ₹30L unpaid tax
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has sealed the building of the PWD’s Diploma Engineering Association due to unpaid property taxes. The association owes ₹30.41 lakh in non-residential tax. They have not paid since 2010, despite receiving multiple notices. LMC's chief tax assessment officer, Ashok Singh, reported that the entire PWD department owes more than ₹2 crore in property taxes, which includes residential and non-residential properties. On Thursday, LMC officials took decisive action by closing the main gate of the association's building. After the building was sealed, LMC officials discovered that someone from the PWD allegedly removed the seal without permission. The officials quickly returned, resealed the gate, and issued a warning against any further interference. They emphasized that strict action will be taken if the seal is broken again without following proper procedures.
