Local committees to expedite housing for extremely poor families
Local governments will set up land purchase committees to help extremely poor families find housing. This initiative is part of a state program aimed at reducing extreme poverty. A recent survey identified 64,006 families as extremely poor. From those surveyed, plans have been created for 56,697 families. Among them, 5,776 families were found to be without land or homes. However, by December 2024, only 412 families had received land and houses, according to a report from the Local Self-Government department. The new land purchase committees will focus on discovering larger public land plots suitable for building houses for these families. Each committee will be led by the chairperson of the local body. They will also include a vice-chairperson, a local body secretary, and representatives from community development organizations. These committees will work to ensure that the basic and long-term needs of the identified families are met. This effort aims to provide better housing solutions for those most in need.
