Locals halt illegal dog transport from Kerala to Tamil Nadu
On Wednesday, local residents in Kattchal, a village near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, stopped a van suspected of illegally transporting dogs from Kerala. They alerted the police as the van was attempting to release more than eight dogs in the area. The van, registered in Kerala, had passed through a check post, claiming the dogs were being taken for a clinical visit. This incident is reportedly not the first of its kind, as locals mentioned a previous occurrence involving the same person. Residents believed that a local individual from Kunnathukal was bringing the dogs to manage stray cattle problems around his newly built property. When the locals saw the dogs being let loose again, they intervened. The police arrived quickly, along with the Kadayal Executive Officer. They imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh and seized the van's registration certificate, according to official reports.
