Lodi man dies in Calaveras County crash

A man from Lodi, aged 24, died in a crash in Calaveras County on Sunday night. The California Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. on Highway 12 near Petross Avenue in Wallace. The crash involved a Chevrolet that was speeding westbound on the highway. The driver lost control and drifted onto the gravel shoulder. The vehicle then crossed back onto the road and collided with an oncoming Ford. The Chevrolet overturned on top of the Ford after the impact. Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet died at the scene. The driver and passenger in the Ford were taken to San Joaquin General Hospital with serious injuries. Authorities suspect that driving under the influence may have contributed to the crash. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts. The identity of the Chevrolet's driver has not yet been released.
