Lok Sabha adjourned due to opposition protests in Delhi
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day following protests from the opposition on March 18, 2025. The protests were sparked by comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the Mahakumbh, a major religious festival. As soon as PM Modi finished speaking, opposition members protested in their seats. They wanted to discuss the stampede that occurred at the Mahakumbh, in which thirty people died on January 29. They called for those deaths to be acknowledged in the Prime Minister's statement. After the initial adjournment until 1 p.m., the House resumed. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke about budget demands for his ministry. However, when the discussion shifted to the Jal Shakti Ministry, opposition members continued their protests, which led to another adjournment of proceedings for the day.
