Long COVID affects millions, lacks approved treatments
March 15 marks Long COVID Awareness Day, highlighting the ongoing struggles of millions affected by long-term COVID-19 symptoms. As the pandemic nears its fifth anniversary, many individuals continue to experience debilitating health issues, with over 400 million globally affected. Research and advocacy efforts have increased, driven largely by those living with long COVID. Despite significant milestones, including scientific publications and awareness initiatives, there remains a lack of approved treatments, and many still face denial about the disease's severity. Activists emphasize the importance of prevention and community support, as marginalized groups are disproportionately impacted. While some progress has been made in understanding long COVID, the fight for recognition and effective care continues.
