Great Outdoors Colorado has announced a $350,000 grant to the city of Longmont. This funding will be used to create a free splash pad at Kensington Park. The splash pad is expected to be finished by the end of this year. The splash pad is part of a larger initiative called Resilient Together. This project focuses on adding shade and water features in areas that are at risk of extreme heat. Great Outdoors Colorado manages funds generated from the Colorado Lottery. Lisa Knoblauch, Longmont’s sustainability manager, emphasized the importance of this project. She said, "Enhancing resilience to increased heat is a critical aspect of protecting our community from the impacts of climate change." The project includes planting more trees, adding water features, and providing support for home cooling. Residents of Longmont participated in surveys and workshops to voice their needs for the project. The Resilient Together initiative aims not only to cool urban areas but also to promote social connections and encourage active lifestyles among community members.
