Gardaí in Roscommon have caught a speeding lorry driver who was driving 91km/h in a 50km/h zone. The incident occurred near a school in the village of Cloontuskert, about three kilometers from Lanesborough. The driver was stopped by officers who were on patrol in the area. The speed was significantly above the limit, putting students and teachers at risk. As a result, the driver received a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice. A spokesperson for Gardaí shared the information on social media. They stated they detected the lorry speeding right in front of the school. Drivers who exceed speed limits face a €160 fine and three penalty points. If the fine is not paid within 28 days, it rises to €240. After 56 days of non-payment, fines can lead to a court summons and penalties up to €1,000. Recently, the speed limit on rural local roads was reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h to enhance safety for everyone on the road. New signs reflecting this change have been installed.
