Lorry fire causes 90-minute delays on A21, M25
A lorry fire caused major traffic delays on the M25 and A21 on Thursday morning. The fire broke out around 07:54 GMT on the southbound side of the A21 near Sevenoaks. National Highways reported delays of up to 90 minutes between junction three (Swanley) and junction five (Sevenoaks). Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly, sending four fire engines to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Kent Police also arrived at the scene, and traffic was halted to allow fire crews to work safely. Traffic was held on both the M25 and M26 during this time. Currently, only the slip road from the clockwise M25 to the A21 remains closed. In another incident, the M2 was temporarily shut down due to a crash involving four vehicles between junctions five (A249) and four (Hempstead). There were no reported injuries from this crash either.
