Los Alamitos and Villa Park win key baseball games
In Wednesday's baseball games in Orange County, Los Alamitos scored a late comeback to defeat Edison 4-3. Sutton DeNinno hit a game-winning single in the seventh inning. Kaden Carrion also played a key role, tying the game with a double in the same inning. Los Alamitos improved its overall record to 8-1-2 and is now 1-1 in league play. Newport Harbor also had a dramatic win, beating Corona del Mar 1-0. Elijah Haseth drove in the winning run in the seventh inning. Newport Harbor's pitcher, Keaton Anderson, allowed only two hits over six innings. The team now has a record of 6-1. Huntington Beach beat Marina 3-1, with Trent Grindlinger and Jayton Greer each hitting solo home runs. Jared Grindlinger pitched well, allowing no hits over three innings for the win. In a notable nonleague game, Villa Park defeated No. 2 Santa Margarita 2-1. Jack McGuire and Brady Wolfe pitched strongly for Villa Park, who is now 7-3. Gunner Santillo contributed a double for Santa Margarita, which fell to 5-1. Aliso Niguel beat San Clemente 3-1, thanks to Vanderbilt signee Cooper Flemming's 10 strikeouts. Trabuco Hills secured a 4-1 victory over El Modena with Mikey Gray dominating on the mound. Fountain Valley had a big win against Santa Fe, scoring 15 runs and recording 19 hits. Mater Dei also won 4-0 against Murrieta Valley, led by Landon Gordon’s solid pitching. In other games, Portola beat Sage Hill 7-0. University won against St. Margaret's 9-4, and Laguna Beach extended its winning streak with a 3-0 victory over Woodbridge. Savanna triumphed over Estancia 11-5, and Sonora narrowly defeated Spanish Springs 1-0 in the Anaheim Lions Tournament. Dana Hills topped Whittier Christian 12-6 in a high-scoring affair.
