A low-pressure area (LPA) has formed outside the Philippine area of Responsibility and may develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours. It is located 2,235 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Severe Tropical Storm Nika, also known as Toraji, is intensifying and could become a typhoon soon. It was last detected 690 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour. Nika is moving north-northwest at 30 kilometers per hour. The situation is being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
