Lower socioeconomic status accelerates biological aging, UK study finds

euronews.com

A new study from the UK shows that people with lower socioeconomic backgrounds may age biologically faster than those with better circumstances. The research found a 20% higher risk of age-related diseases among the disadvantaged. The study examined 83 diseases linked to aging and analyzed patients' socioeconomic factors, such as education and income. It revealed that the most disadvantaged individuals had twice the risk of developing conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Researchers also noted that socioeconomic status affects blood protein levels related to aging. Those who improved their social status showed better protein profiles, suggesting that upward mobility may positively influence biological aging.
