The safety of passengers at bus terminals in Lucknow is under scrutiny after a tragic incident involving a murder. A 32-year-old woman was attacked after taking an autorickshaw outside the Alambagh bus terminal. Following this event, police increased patrols around the terminals. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) report that major terminals, including Qaiserbagh, Charbagh, Awadh, and Alambagh, are monitored with 100 CCTV cameras. They also have security personnel working around the clock. At the Charbagh terminal, for instance, three guards are deployed at night to assist passengers. While the Charbagh terminal has the fewest cameras, officials are planning to enhance its security. Currently, one of its 12 cameras is not functioning. They aim to replace it soon. Despite these issues, passenger safety is a priority. The terminal has an enquiry desk staffed with security personnel at all times. Alambagh terminal has 35 cameras positioned strategically, along with four guards always present. This terminal can also track the woman's movements before her attack through its cameras. The Qaiserbagh terminal boasts 18 cameras and has up to seven guards on duty, ensuring safety even during low traffic hours at night. The Awadh terminal, which accommodates around 400 buses daily, is monitored by 36 cameras and has multiple guards on patrol. UPSRTC officials emphasize their commitment to passenger safety and are actively working to improve security measures at all terminals.
