Lucknow e-autos receive unique IDs for passenger safety

hindustantimes.com

Lucknow police have started a new safety campaign for e-autos called “Surakshit Safar Abhiyan.” This initiative aims to improve passenger safety and better control e-autorickshaw operations in the city. The campaign was launched after the tragic murder of a 32-year-old woman from Ayodhya. She was killed by two e-autorickshaw drivers who tried to assault and rob her. The drivers picked her up from the bus station but took her to a different area, where she was murdered. As part of the initiative, police are marking identification numbers in larger fonts on e-autos and keeping a database of drivers for easier tracking. Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner of police in Mohanlalganj, mentioned that these clear numbers will help identify vehicles involved in crimes quickly. Authorities have also banned e-autos from other districts. Vehicles without proper documentation will face legal action. Deputy commissioner of police, Nipun Agarwal, stated that strict measures will be enforced against illegal parking, overloading, and wrong-side driving, which contribute to traffic problems. Police have conducted checks on driving licenses and vehicle documents. So far, they have seized 22 vehicles and issued 105 fines for offenses such as riding without helmets and illegal parking. Additionally, over 40 e-autos from other districts were sent back, and the details of more than 70 drivers were recorded.
