Lucknow reduces garbage fees for smaller homes

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to lower garbage collection fees for smaller homes. Starting in the 2025-26 financial year, homeowners with properties on land smaller than 1,000 square feet will pay ₹50 per month instead of ₹100. This change will benefit many middle-class families in the city. The new fee structure was approved in a budget meeting led by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and attended by 12 committee members. They agreed that the previous flat rate of ₹100 for all homes was unfair. Under the new system, houses on larger properties will continue to pay ₹100 monthly. The charges for garbage collection will be tied to property tax, making it easier to collect fees based on property size. Mayor Kharkwal also mentioned a 10% discount for those who pay the annual fee all at once. However, commercial properties will not see any changes in their fees, which range from ₹100 to ₹5,000 depending on size and usage. The LMC aims to ease financial pressure on smaller home owners while ensuring efficient waste collection in the city.
