Lucknow Super Giants owner admits to overpaying for Rishabh Pant at IPL 2025 auction

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka stated the franchise "slightly overpaid" for Rishabh Pant during the IPL 2025 auction, where he was sold for Rs 27 crore. Goenka had initially budgeted Rs 26 crore for Pant. Several teams, including Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, competed for Pant. Goenka's son, Shashwat, noted that acquiring Pant fit well into their plans, despite needing to exceed their budget. Pant's addition strengthens Lucknow's middle order, joining retained players Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni, and new signing David Miller. The Delhi Capitals chose not to retain Pant before the auction.
