Lucknow Super Giants set IPL record with Rs 27 crore bid for Rishabh Pant

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made history by acquiring Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. This move was part of LSG's strategy to prevent Delhi Capitals from using their 'Right to Match' card. Shashwat Goenka, son of LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, confirmed that the bid was planned to secure Pant. He noted that while the amount was significant, it was intended to ensure Delhi could not retain him. Pant's acquisition follows a competitive bidding process, surpassing the previous record held by Shreyas Iyer at Rs 26.75 crore. LSG now has a top-order batter and captaincy option in Pant, who has been a key player for Delhi Capitals since 2016.
