Lucknow to rejuvenate Butler Lake with pipeline project
Lucknow's Butler Lake, which has nearly dried up, is set to be revived. A new 750-meter pipeline will deliver treated water from the Dalibagh Sewage Treatment Plant. This plan was discussed at a review meeting led by Roshan Jacob, the commissioner and chairperson of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). The meeting focused on several heritage projects aimed at preserving Lucknow's historical sites. Officials are encouraged to speed up conservation efforts and promote structured tourism initiatives. The goal is to enhance public engagement and showcase the city’s cultural charm. Prathamesh Kumar, the LDA vice chairperson, reported that 85% of the restoration work on the Butler Palace is complete, with final details expected to be finished by April 30. Additionally, beautification work at Butler Lake is 95% done, with only horticultural tasks remaining. The commissioner urged officials to approve the tender for the pipeline within a week. In the Hazratganj and Naza Market areas, she emphasized the need for better coordination on beautification projects. Civic authorities must also address traders' concerns and ensure proper sewer and water connections. To promote tourism, the LDA plans to start a weekend heritage tour with double-decker buses. The morning tour will be called Lucknow Darshan, and the evening tour will be Shaam-e-Awadh. Jacob announced a 50% fare discount for women to encourage more participation, aiming to make the city's history easier to access while boosting tourism and local businesses.
