A recent investigation into a building collapse in Ludhiana has raised safety concerns. The collapse happened at a factory in Focal Point, Phase-8, resulting in the deaths of three workers. A four-member committee was formed to examine the incident and submitted its findings after an on-site inspection on March 11. The report reveals that while most of the building has collapsed, a 55-foot-high lift shaft is still standing. This structure could pose a danger to nearby factories. Experts warn that a pile of debris around it may be temporarily keeping it in place. The committee recommends controlled demolition of the lift shaft before rubble removal begins. The building was located in an industrial area covering about 1,000 square yards. The Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation (PSIEC) is responsible for the construction regulations in this area. The local sub-divisional magistrate had requested information from PSIEC regarding the necessary approvals for the building. Concerns have also emerged about damage to neighboring structures due to the collapse. Fortunately, the factory has been closed since the incident, reducing risks to workers. Officials have started clearing debris from the area. They plan to secure the site further and will coordinate the demolition of the lift shaft with a specialized agency. The owner of the collapsed building has assured the municipal corporation that he will clear the debris within 10 days. He has taken full responsibility for the demolition and pledged to hire experienced professionals for the job. The owner confirmed that all safety guidelines would be followed during the demolition process. The municipal corporation plans to monitor the work closely to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
