Ludhiana ICU reopening delayed due to staffing shortages
The opening of the intensive care unit (ICU) at Ludhiana's civil hospital remains uncertain, with no timeline set by the health department. The ICU has been closed for over two years, despite renovations nearing completion. Doctors indicate that the ICU's main issue is a lack of staff, not infrastructure. The hospital has expanded from a 100-bed to a 300-bed facility, but only a few new doctors have joined since last year's hiring. Additionally, the state government is working on a new 75-bed critical care unit and plans to establish two new medical colleges in the district. A new 1,000-bed super specialty hospital is also in development, with 500 beds designated for underprivileged patients.
