A man and his son-in-law were cheated out of ₹39,700 at the Phillaur railway station in Ludhiana. They were promised two reserved seats on the Amrapali Express, which was headed to Bihar. On March 22, Dalip Kumar Shah and his son-in-law Ranjan Kumar were waiting for their train when three men approached them. The suspects warned them about a large crowd on the train and offered to help them secure seats in the guard's coach. The conmen took the victims to Shivpuri Road, claiming they needed permission from a railway official. They asked Dalip and Ranjan to make a detailed list of their luggage, saying it was required to gain access to the coach. Trusting the suspects, the victims handed over ₹39,700, two Aadhaar cards, an ATM card, and a mobile phone for verification. After some time, the suspects took the items and vanished. The victims waited for hours before realizing they had been scammed. The police have since registered a case against the three unidentified suspects. They are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to local residents to help identify the culprits.
