Ludhiana schools struggle with overcrowded classrooms
In Ludhiana, government schools are facing a space shortage as they work to boost student enrollment. The education department has started an enrollment drive to attract more students. However, some schools are already overcrowded. At Government Primary School, Kundanpuri, nearly 90 students are crammed into a single classroom every day. A teacher mentioned that the school’s status as a center means they must store materials from other schools in their classrooms, adding to the cramped conditions. The school, which has over 500 students, only has five classrooms. Similarly, at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Engine Shed, 240 students are enrolled. A new classroom is being built at this school to help reduce the overcrowding. Ravinder Kaur, the district education officer, recognized the issue. She promised that schools struggling with space problems would receive some relief from enrollment targets.
