Lufthansa explores new routes in Asia, Africa, South America
Lufthansa is expanding its focus beyond North America, seeking new routes in Asia, Africa, and South America. CEO Jens Ritter announced plans to diversify revenue sources during a meeting on March 10, aiming to reduce reliance on the North American market. The airline's recent acquisition of a 41% stake in ITA Airways will support this strategy, with ITA planning 46 weekly flights to Asia and South America. Lufthansa has also introduced new first-class suites on flights to Indian cities, highlighting its commitment to growth in these regions. Additionally, Lufthansa is pursuing a stake in Air Europa to enhance its intercontinental network. The airline is competing with Air France-KLM for a share in Air Europa, which has a strong South American presence.
