Luxon to announce Resource Management Act reforms today

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has returned from a trip to India. He is expected to announce important changes to the Resource Management Act (RMA) today. Luxon will speak to the media at 4 pm in the Beehive, accompanied by Chris Bishop, the minister in charge of RMA reform. The government plans to outline the next steps for reforming the RMA. This comes after recent criticisms regarding local council decisions. Bishop described a recent rejection of a new $100 million office building by Auckland Council as “insanity.” He stressed that such decisions are pushing the government to make changes to the law. The government's plan will include a cabinet decision on a new legislative framework to replace the current Resource Management Act. This project aims to streamline processes and encourage development while addressing concerns related to environmental impact.
