Luzon areas face storm surge risk as Typhoon Pepito exits Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Pepito is leaving the Philippine area, but some areas in Luzon remain at “moderate” to “high risk” of storm surge for the next 48 hours, according to the weather bureau Pagasa. The storm surge, caused by strong winds and low pressure, can lead to flooding in low-lying coastal areas. Pagasa has advised the public to avoid coastal areas and cancel marine activities. As of early Monday, Pepito was located 105 kilometers west southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, moving northwest at 30 kilometers per hour. It has maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h and gusts up to 185 km/h.
