M25 in Surrey reopens after bridge demolition completed
The M25 motorway in Surrey has reopened after a bridge demolition. The closure affected traffic between junctions 10 and 11 over the weekend, starting Friday night. National Highways announced that both directions were back open by 06:00 on Sunday. This closure was part of a larger £317 million project aimed at adding extra lanes. The goal is to improve safety and reduce congestion where the M25 meets the A3. During the closure, drivers faced delays of up to 30 minutes. However, no delays were reported by Monday morning. The construction project began in 2022 and was originally expected to finish this summer. Now, due to extreme weather, the completion date has been pushed back to spring 2026. This recent weekend closure will be the last full one for the project. National Highways had previously noted an increase in traffic during this closure compared to earlier ones. Drivers were advised to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes. There was also a reminder to follow official detours, after an HGV driver needed rescue when following incorrect directions from Google Maps.
