M4 motorway closing for resurfacing near Swindon tonight

thesun.co.uk

Drivers using the M4 motorway should be aware of an important closure starting tonight. National Highways has announced that the westbound carriageway will be closed between junction 15 at Swindon and junction 14. This closure will continue each night from 9 PM to 6 AM until Friday, March 28, for resurfacing work. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes during these hours to avoid delays. In addition, there will be overnight closures near Wiltshire between Bath and Bristol throughout the week. This closure follows a recent incident where part of the M4 was shut down due to a fire near Heathrow Airport. Last Thursday, a blaze at an electrical station caused a major power outage, halting all southbound traffic between the M4 and J4A junction. The M4 saw additional disruptions over the weekend due to scheduled roadworks. The A432 Badminton Road bridge over the M4 was demolished after being closed for two years due to damage. Moreover, there were also closures on the M25, near junctions 10 and 11, as part of a £317 million project to add extra lanes. National Highways has declared that these recent M25 closures will be the last related to this improvement project. However, adverse weather has caused delays, and the project is now expected to finish in spring 2026.
