MACC arrests agent for RM40,000 bribery in Kuala Lumpur

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested an agent at a vehicle inspection center for allegedly taking bribes. The agent, who is in his 60s, is accused of accepting around RM40,000 to secure priority queue numbers for vehicle inspections without following proper rules. A magistrate's court in Putrajaya has ordered the agent to be held for five days until March 25, as part of the investigation. The arrest resulted from a joint operation with the Road Transport Department and the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre, also known as PUSPAKOM. According to sources, some individuals misused the PUSPAKOM booking system. They made bulk reservations using random vehicle numbers and then sold these pre-booked slots to customers for a few hundred ringgit each. This practice made it hard for regular customers to get inspection appointments since all slots were booked by these agents. MACC official Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi confirmed the arrest and said the agency is looking for other agents involved in this scheme. More arrests may happen as the investigation continues.
