Macomb County SWAT arrests suspect from hospital shooting
A shooting occurred at Troy Corewell Hospital, leading to a rapid response from the Macomb County SWAT team. Lieutenant Gary Wiegand, the SWAT Team Commander, shared details about the successful arrest of the suspect. On the morning of March 20, Wiegand received a call identifying the shooter as a resident from Macomb Township. This information was crucial as it meant the team was near the suspect’s home. As the suspect arrived home, patrol cars were already approaching. Officers noticed a vehicle matching the suspect's pulling into the garage. Shortly after, the SWAT team arrived to handle the situation. They positioned their armored vehicle in front of the house. One of the hostage negotiators used a loudspeaker to communicate with anyone inside, encouraging them to call 911. The suspect complied and connected with a negotiator. During the conversation, the suspect agreed to come out of the house and follow police commands. He then exited peacefully and surrendered without incident. After the suspect was in custody, SWAT cleared the home and turned the case over to detectives.
