Maddox Shaw named Wrestler of the Year in Pennsylvania

Maddox Shaw from Thomas Jefferson High School has been named Wrestler of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The senior, who competes in the 152-pound category, ended his season with a record of 38 wins and just one loss. Despite suffering a knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a month, he won his second state championship and helped his team achieve historic success. Shaw returned to competition in January after recovering and won multiple titles, including a third Allegheny County tournament. He expressed gratitude for his accomplishments and the chance to compete at a high level. Shaw will represent the WPIAL in an upcoming match against a U.S. team at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic. Several athletes joined Shaw on the first team. Bode Marlow, also from Thomas Jefferson, finished the season with a record of 50-4 and was a two-time WPIAL champion. Shepherd Turk, another senior from Thomas Jefferson, finished third in the state and helped his team claim regional titles. Other notable wrestlers include Evan Petrovich from Connellsville, who finished second at the state level, and Antonio Boni from Central Valley, who reached the state finals for the second time. Each of these athletes showcased their skills with impressive season records and achievements. The second team featured several strong competitors as well, including Roman Thompson from Central Catholic and Collier Hartman from Canon-McMillan. These athletes also had successful seasons, contributing to their schools' wrestling programs. Overall, this year's wrestling season highlighted exceptional talent and dedication among high school athletes in the region.
