Madhya Pradesh transfers officials after ASI's death
The Madhya Pradesh government has transferred the superintendent of police and the district collector of Mauganj after a violent mob attack resulted in the death of a police assistant sub-inspector. The transfers were announced late on Tuesday. The incident happened on March 15 in Gadra village, about 25 kilometers from the district headquarters. A group of tribal individuals allegedly abducted a man named Sunny Dwivedi and killed him. When police arrived to rescue him, they were attacked by the mob, leading to the death of ASI Ramcharan Gautam. In the transfer orders, SP Rasna Thakur will move to a role at the police headquarters in Bhopal, while Dilip Kumar Soni from the Economic Offences Wing will replace her. Additionally, Collector Ajay Shrivastava has also been transferred. Deputy Secretary Sanjay Kumar Jain will take over as the new collector of Mauganj. The violence began when the Kol tribe accused Dwivedi of causing the death of tribal member Ashok Kumar months earlier. While police reports indicated that Kumar died in a road accident, the tribe believed Dwivedi was responsible. When police attempted to intervene, they faced a violent attack from armed tribals. Gautam suffered serious injuries and later died in the hospital. Other officers were also hurt and received medical attention. Police had to fire warning shots to control the situation and ensure their safety.
