Police in Virudhunagar district have arrested two men for allegedly cheating a businessman out of ₹48 lakh. The incident occurred on March 15 and involved the sale of gold. The businessman, K. Muthukumar, is from Madurai and was introduced to a man named T. Martin in Seithur. Martin promised to sell Muthukumar 600 grams of gold for ₹48 lakh. Muthukumar traveled to Rajapalayam with cash, accompanied by two others, to finalize the purchase. Upon meeting Martin and his associates, T. Karuppiah and M. Kannan, they showed Muthukumar six gold bars. After accepting the cash, Martin directed Muthukumar to a jewelry store to verify the gold's quality. During the auto ride, Karuppiah suddenly stopped and led Muthukumar and the others on foot, claiming the store was nearby. Unexpectedly, Karuppiah fled the scene on a motorcycle ridden by Kannan. Attempts to contact Martin were unsuccessful, leading Muthukumar to discover he had been scammed with fake gold. Authorities are currently searching for Martin.
