Magna and Nvidia enhance vehicle safety and self-driving technologies
Magna International and Nvidia have teamed up to enhance safety and self-driving technologies in vehicles. The two companies announced their partnership on Tuesday, focusing on improving the accuracy and speed of onboard systems. Magna aims to develop cars that behave better than human drivers. Steven Jenkins, Magna's vice president of technology strategy, emphasized their goal to ensure vehicles respond like humans but with added capabilities. Nvidia's vice president of automotive, Ali Kani, added that their collaboration will advance safety-certified AI for the automotive industry. The partnership will use Nvidia’s Drive AGX platform, a powerful AI computing system designed to boost vehicle performance. This technology can process vast amounts of data quickly, allowing for improved driver assistance and self-driving features. Jenkins believes this advancement will make cars more responsive and reliable, even in challenging conditions. The firms plan to create a demonstration model by the end of this year. They have not disclosed which automakers will use this new technology but noted strong interest from potential customers. While there are concerns about U.S. tariffs affecting production, Jenkins stated that Magna’s manufacturing presence in the U.S. mitigates these worries.
