Magno sues vlogger for cyberlibel in Quezon City
Cielo Magno, a former finance official, has filed a cyberlibel complaint against vlogger Allan Troy Sasot. This action comes just days after several social media influencers faced criticism in Congress for spreading false information. Magno, who also teaches economics, accuses Sasot of making false claims. In two posts from February, Sasot alleged that Magno bribes lawmakers to create a false identity, “Mary Grace Piattos,” during an inquiry into Vice President Sara Duterte's use of public funds. Magno’s complaint, consisting of 12 pages, alleges that Sasot's posts were “malicious, demeaning, and defamatory.” Sasot is known for being a strong supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte. He was among the social media figures summoned by Congress but has not attended the hearings. During a recent hearing, three vloggers were forced to apologize after failing to provide evidence for their controversial claims. The House committee warned that anyone missing the next hearing on April 8 could face contempt charges. The complaint highlights that Sasot continued to tag Magno in critical discussions on social media even after making these claims. The complaint seeks punishment under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which can lead to a prison sentence of six to twelve years.
