Maha Kumbh 2025 sees over 20% of new Naga sadhus from Dalit and tribal communities

At the 2025 Maha Kumbh, over 20% of newly initiated Naga sadhus came from Dalit and tribal communities, marking a significant change in the traditionally exclusive brotherhood. Additionally, around 250 women became Naga sadhvis. The event is concluding with the departure of 13 akharas, which are groups of ascetics. They are heading to various holy sites, including Kashi and Ayodhya, after performing rituals and processions. The akharas began leaving after the final ritual bath on Basant Panchami. They will participate in ceremonies and celebrations at their destinations before returning to their monasteries and ashrams.
