Maha-Metro has opened bids to find a detailed design consultant for 14 elevated metro stations in Pune. This is part of the Kharadi-Khadakwasla and Nal Stop-Manik Baug corridors, which are being fast-tracked by the central government. The project includes eight stations along the Kharadi-Khadakwasla corridor, from Deshpande Udyan to Khadakwasla, and six stations on the Nal Stop-Manik Baug corridor. The consultant will focus on the design of the stations but will not work on the viaduct portions. Key areas of work will include architecture, structural design, electrical and mechanical services, fire safety systems, plumbing, and building management systems. The consultant will also explore opportunities for property development at the stations, such as retail spaces and kiosks. If possible, they may design an extra floor for commercial use without additional payment. The Maharashtra government approved these corridors in October 2024, and the project has a combined cost estimate of ₹ 9,897.19 crore. Maha-Metro aims to start the design work quickly. Meanwhile, discussions with other governmental bodies are ongoing to ensure coordinated development in metro-influenced areas. The Kharadi-Khadakwasla corridor will cover about 25.5 kilometers, connecting key residential and commercial hubs. It features 22 elevated stations and is estimated to cost ₹ 8,131.81 crore. The Nal Stop-Manik Baug corridor will be around 6.1 kilometers long, with six elevated stations and a project cost of ₹ 1,765.38 crore. This route aims to enhance connectivity in central Pune and ease traffic congestion on major roads.
