MahaGenco discloses Koradi pollution control contract details

Nagpur: Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco) has shared the contract details for the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system at the Koradi power plant. This follows criticism from the Bombay High Court's Nagpur bench regarding the contract's classification as "confidential." The court stated that such information should be public. The issue arose from a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Vidarbha Connect. This organization focuses on the environmental impact of power projects in the Vidarbha region. The petition aims to stop new thermal power plants and enforce stricter pollution controls on existing ones. During court discussions, MahaGenco initially refused to disclose details of its contract with Shapoorji Pallonji, the firm carrying out the project. The court had earlier instructed the utility to provide the contract, allowing for confidentiality if legally necessary. However, MahaGenco tried to submit the contract privately, limiting access to the petitioner.
