Maharashtra approves 7000 MW solar energy for agriculture

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved MSEDCL to buy over 7000 MW of solar energy at low tariffs for agricultural use. This is part of the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, aiming to solarize agricultural feeders by December 2025. MSEDCL plans to sign power purchase agreements with successful bidders soon. With this new procurement, the total solar energy procurement will reach 16,000 MW, following previous approvals for 9,000 MW. The initiative aims to provide daytime electricity to farmers through decentralized solar projects, reducing overall power procurement costs for MSEDCL and easing the financial burden on industrial and commercial consumers.
